University of Sacramento Design of New Campus

Following an international search and design competition, Holabird & Root was awarded a unique opportunity to master plan and design the first North American campus for a major international university system.

The vision for the 240-acre campus is a reflection of the global institution’s philosophy and culture, which emphasizes active debate and inquiry.

To encourage interdisciplinary interaction and highlight the institution’s focus on the classics, the academic buildings are arranged so that students will learn classics in the center and learn advanced studies in the quads flanking the center.

Students then become experts in their own fields and return to the center to share their knowledge with other discipline experts.
