In late 2014, Holabird & Root was selected to design a new science facility for the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.
The new LaVerne & Dorothy Brown Science Hall is a 48,000-g.s.f facility that provides the University with new teaching and research laboratories, a cadaver lab, multi-purpose lecture hall, and student gathering spaces. Additional spaces within the facility include tutoring and meeting rooms, an atrium, outdoor roof terrace, and green roof. Teaching laboratories are designed to be flexible, and encourage student engagement and collaborative learning. The facility supports the departments of chemistry, biology, physics, and environmental science. As part of this effort, Holabird & Root provided architecture, programming, structural engineering, lab planning, and interior design. The project was completed in January 2018.
