HARPER COLLEGE H BUILDING RENOVATION

Holabird & Root worked with Harper College to renovate its H Building, home to the institution’s Career and Technical Education Center.

The existing facility was fully renovated and localized additions provide for additional program areas and mechanical spaces. Spaces support manufacturing, HVAC, fire science, law enforcement, fashion studies, interior design, and other career-ready programs.

A central clerestory roof addition opens to the interior corridors and brings natural light to the new two-story connecting volume. A new pedestrian bridge links the adjacent G and H buildings and a new parking garage. The modernized facility includes specialized spaces (such as a crime laboratory, fire safety laboratory, etc.), classrooms, teaching laboratories, offices, and student gathering spaces.

Following the H Building Modernization, a New Advanced Manufacturing Lab Facility (also designed by Holabird & Root) was constructed to connect to the H Building, creating a hub for the College's engineering programs. The building trains students for high-tech manufacturing careers in mechatronics/automation, precision machining, metal fabrication, and supply chain management/logistics.
