Holabird & Root created several options for the Effingham Park District to choose from in order to decide which key components should be integrated into its new Richard E. Workman Sports & Wellness Complex.

Because high schools in the surrounding area do not have swimming pools, it was imperative that an eight-lane competition swimming pool was included in the design. 

Additional amenities include two regulation-size basketball courts, three regulation-size volleyball courts, aerobics studios, cardiovascular fitness and strength-training facilities, a three-lane elevated indoor track, family fun leisure pool, lobby, multipurpose rooms, kitchen, concession area, vending, administrative offices, support facilities, and more.

The Sports Complex also houses tenant space for the local hospital. The St. Anthony Hospital Wellness Center within the facility allows for medical rehabilitation and wellness within the larger fitness setting, making a perfect neighbor for the Complex, and providing additional revenue for the facility.
