FERMILAB SBN FAR DETECTOR BUILDING
Holabird & Root has worked extensively with Fermilab over a span of nearly 20 years to provide architecture, engineering, interior design, and graphic illustration services for projects involving its office and research facilities.
Most recently, we completed the design and oversaw the construction of its Short Baseline Neutrino (SBN) Near and Far Detectors. The Detectors are instrumental in supporting Fermilab’s Neutrino Research Program and are key components to its Neutrino Campus.
The SBN Far Detector Building is designed to accommodate the refurbished ICARUS detector, which arrived in two pieces prior to installation. Each piece of the detector is approximately 18-feet wide by 18-feet tall and 77-feet long, weighing over 60 tons. The building is designed with removable wall sections, removable skylights, and overhead bridge cranes to accommodate the installation of not only the ICARUS detector components, but the supporting infrastructure as well.
