LOYOLA UNIVERSITY NEW ORLEANS MONROE HALL

Holabird & Root, in association with Holly & Smith Architects, revitalized Monroe Hall on the Loyola University New Orleans campus. The largest academic building on campus, Monroe Hall houses Applied Sciences, the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences, the College of Social Sciences, the College of Music and Fine Arts, and Information Technology.

The project included a phased rehabilitation of the existing facility and the creation of two new floors.

Spaces in Monroe Hall include a variety of classrooms, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, studios for the visual arts, offices, student gathering spaces, and more. An existing lecture hall spanning the 200 and 300 levels was renovated into a 300-seat, acoustically-enhanced performance hall for music.

Informal gathering spaces were interspersed throughout the facility to promote student and faculty collaboration. Through this, all of the primary arts and science facilities on campus are connected, creating an interdisciplinary community the University desired.
