NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY WIRTZ CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING & MEDIA ARTS

Located in Northwestern University’s Historic Abbott Hall in Downtown Chicago, the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center for the Performing & Media Arts provides the University and Downtown Chicago Community with a New Performing Arts Facility.

The resulting design provides two (2) new black box theaters, a design studio, computer media lab, seminar room/classroom, and offices. Additional support spaces include dressing rooms, a green room, workshop, and additional learning and performance spaces.

The Wirtz Center serves Northwestern’s School of Communication; Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) Acting Program; and Radio, TV, and Film Programs. The project also supports the expansion of graduate education in the performing and media arts, serves as a hub for new and experimental work being developed by students and faculty, and provides opportunities to reach downtown audiences.
